Mish Mash Challenge - Triangle

I'm not even sure what these nails remind me of. For some reason I think of really bright galaxy nails with not much detail, does that even make sense? Oddly enough the background of my nails was inspired by the krang ship on the newer version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle TV show, which my brothers are absolutely obsessed with. I've wanted to incorporate a piece of the ship into a nail design for some time now and since I was stumped with what to put as my background for my white triangles, it worked out perfectly! I really like the way these turned out although my friends think the design is completely random, which I would have to agree with but they shouldn't expect much more from me.

Pink Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear - Razz-berry
Purple Wet n Wild Fastdry - Buffy the Violent Slayer
White L.A. Colors Art Deco Nail Art Lacquer - White
Black L.A. Colors Art Deco Nail Art Lacquer - Black

The way I achieved my "simple galaxy" background was using the saran wrap method with the pink polish as my base then added the purple as my second color.

Mish Mash Challenge - Blue

BLUE is such a pretty color and probably one of the most well liked. I know I could have went in about 1000 different directions with this, which may have been a lot more creative but I'm pinched for time here. I went with a mosaic print since it's something I've wanted to try for awhile now. I'm wondering if I should of went with different colors but either way I like the way these came out. If I had some more time I would have cleaned up the edges a bit more but I'll make sure to do that next time.

Mish Mash Challenge - Cold

Two things came to mind when I thought of cold, snow and ice. After some deliberation on the types of designs I could do, I decided on cracked ice, which sounds really awesome but I really just used my crackle polish that I've been wanting to use again. When I first started with nail art I would use these polishes since they had such an amazing look with minimal effort. I rediscovered the "crackles" a couple weeks ago when reorganizing my nail polishes and vowed to try and find some more uses for them.

Blue Wet n Wild Fastdry - Saved by the Blue
White Sephora by OPI - White Blasted

I didn't add a top coat to this manicure since I like the texture that it gave my nails and seems to me like a mild 3D effect, which I really enjoy. It's so simple yet I got so many compliments on them and I do enjoy simplicity every now and then, its a nice break from all the craziness I attempt to put on my little nails. I hope you enjoy these as much as I did.

Until next time, PEACE!

Mish Mash Challenge - Least Expensive Nail Polish

I have some nail polishes that are a dollar usually and some that I got for a dollar because they were on clearance. I spent more time then I probably should deciding which I would choose to use but I ended up deciding on the polish that was my favorite. I went to a Rite-Aid sometime during the end of summer and found so many nice nail polishes on sale including this Sally Hansen Sugar Coat Polish called Lick-O-Rich. I was ecstatic but unfortunately the reason they had so many things on clearance was because they were closing down and I was unable to make it for a second trip. The good news is I got a lot of discounted polish and that's always fun.

They had black on clearance for a $1 and usually retails for $5.49. This isn't necessarily the polish that was the biggest price difference but its the one I fell in love with and was so happy I got my hands on it, especially for a cheap price. I used two coats to reach this level of opacity and you can definitely feel its texture which is not as strong in other polishes. I found myself passing my nails across my face because I just loved the feeling and I will admit that that is incredibly weird but I just don't care! I was a bit worried that I'd make a mess with all the little grains in the bottle but was so happy when I found that it is as easy as applying any other polish. Definitely a great polish and gets Yeliza's stamp of approval.

Mish Mash Challenge - Hot

What exactly does hot mean? I'm not to sure. At first I thought the idea was to represent something that is hot on your nails like a fire or something of that nature but then I thought of hot as a new trend that has gained a lot of traction. I wasn't sure which interpretation to go with so I made the easy choice and decided on both!

Orange Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear - Sunkissed
Red Orange Essie - Come Here
White Wet n Wild

Halfmoon, Watercolor, "Chevron," Leopard, and Stripes are some of the hottest trends I could think of. I wanted each nail to have the same three colors that represented heat in my eyes. When I think of hot I think of fire and the first colors to come to min are red, orange and yellow. I decided to knock yellow out of the equation and added white.

My middle finger isn't actually chevron since my craft scissors were giving some issues, I went with scalloped instead. I actually really like each nail and two out of the five are something I've never tried before so I really enjoyed trying something new. I do have a favoreite though and that's the leopard print,I just think it really stands out and looks really nice, one of the best leopard prints I've done.

Mish Mash Challenge - Music

Last week's challenge was music and I think that it can be interpreted in many ways. Anything that has to deal with music goes and that means there are going to be some designs that are truly unique. I decided to base my manicure on one song/artist. I was planning on doing it based on IM5's song called Superman but after 2 failed attempts I decided to just change the song I was planning on using. I decided on It's A Beautiful Day by Michael Buble.

Thumb - Canadian Flag
Pointer - CD
Middle - Tuxedo
Ring - Beautiful Day
Pinky - "This fire inside, it burns too bright"

I just wanted to explain each nail although it's probably self explanatory. Michael Buble is Canadian, I also want to apologize for my flag, I'm going to need to practice that haha. Since he has sold so many records I thought I'd put a CD on my pointer. I also added a tuxedo since most of the performances I have watched he was wearing a tux or suit. Unfortunately when I added my topcoat the bow tie and buttons smeared a bit. I also did a cartoon version of a beautiful day for the title of the song and last but not least, my pinky is representing a line in the song, "This fire inside, it burns too bright."

I'm so happy that I got this done! It's been bothering me since it's not late because I haven't had a chance to complete it but because I couldn't execute the design I had planned. The good news is that I can make sure that all my other manicures are on time.

Mish Mash Challenge - Nail Art Technique You've Never Tried Before

I find this weeks challenge really exciting. I've been saying that about each Mish Mash post actually but that's beside the point. I usually tell myself that I will try something new but end up doing something I'm comfortable with like half moons. I've never tried Ikat before and it seemed really interesting. This was the perfect opportunity to try this manicure and while it isn't the greatest attempt, I am really proud of how these came out! I'm pretty sure I might even end up trying this again with a different color combination once I take these off.

Periwinkle Blue Essie - Bikini So Teeny
Coral Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear - Coral Reef
White L.A. Colors Art Deco Nail Art Lacquer - White
Black L.A. Colors Art Deco Nail Art Lacquer - Black

I'm actually surprised at just how fun this looks on the nail. I may even wear it for more than a day and that's saying something. My topcoat did smudge the design a bit but nothing to major thankfully.

Mish Mash Challenge - Metallic

Jeez, I'm so late for this part of the challenge, last week was just a bit hectic. I wanted to go a bit crazy for metallic, possibly do something extremely over the top but unfortunately I came up with nothing. I'm keeping it simple today with my gold mani and mint tips. Believe it or not I've never tried anything like this before. With something this simple you'd might thing it's been done a thousand times but in my case that hasn't happened.

Gold Orly - Luxe
Mint Pop Beauty - Mint Magic

Um, can I just say I love this color combination? Just look at it! How cute is that? Maybe I'm over excited but I don't care! Sometimes something simple is all you need.

Mish Mash Challenge - Taping

I am still very much excited to be joining in on this challenge. After a week you would think it's worn off a bit but nope! Anyway, today's theme for the Mish Mash Challenge is Taping. I really like tape manicures, the only problem is mine are nowhere near perfect, I know it's a lot to expect to get a perfect tape mani but is it really to much to ask to get it so that it doesn't look like a mess? Haha. I had gotten craft scissors as a christmas gift a looooong time ago and never really had a reason to use them. I thought it would be the perfect time to whip them out but I have absolutely no idea where they are! So I decided to stick my regular scissors and do some random lines instead.

White Wet n Wild Wild Shine - French White Creme
Dark Grey Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure - Oxide
Red L.A. Colors Art Deco Nail Art Lacquer - Red

I wasn't planning on adding the red but the white was the base for my chevron and when that didn't work out I decided to keep it simple and add a dark color for contrast. It just seemed too boring so I had to add a pop of color.

This is without the red.

Mish Mash Challenge - Purple

This is the first challenge I am joining in on and I'm really excited! The ladies who put this lovely challenge together are absolutely amazing! I think its rather managable, one post every week so it seems like the right first challenge to participate in. I actually found out about this challenge yesterday so I quickly whipped something up.

The theme for July 31st is PURPLE. Like I said I found out about this challenge yesterday so I kept it simple and wanted to do something easy. What's easier than stripes? The manicure below is using 6 different shades of purple that I had hidden in my nail polish arsenal.

*Middle Finger - Left to Right*
Matteselite - Fucci-licious
Sinful Colors - Sweet Tooth
Essie - Lilacism
Jordana - Purple Punch
Revlon - Bold Sangria
OPI - You're Such A Budapest

I put a matte top coat just so the stripes can be seen a little easier in the photographs. The matte top coat I used for the pictures below is Warpaint Beauty - Mattify from Hot Topic:

Sorry for the bombardment of pictures, it's just so easy to get good pictures when it's matte!
